BNegao
2008-07-22BNegão, strikes an eccentric balance between political philosopher and street preacher. He rose to fame in the late 1990s as Marcelo D2's partner in Planet Hemp, a popular, pro-legalization group that landed BNegão in trouble with the police for the band's hemp-positive message. The group sold over 1.000.000 copies at the time.
Now with Os Seletores de Frequencia (his new band), BNegão fuses in-your-face rap with Brazilian and Caribbean rhythms, throwing in a healthy dose of funk, jazz and hardcore for good measure, not mentioning his poetry.
Considered one of the most creative rappers in Brazil, he has released one solo album in 2003, "Drying Ice", completely independent, which was been cited by journalist Daniel Brown (European music critic) as one of the world’s top 5 releases of the black/rap genre that year. Since then, he has been touring in Brazil and Europe (10 tours to Europe on the last 5 years).
In 2007, he had two of his songs selected for the album The Inspiring New Sounds of Rio de Janeiro, a selection released by the North American Verge Records, for which he received many complements from famous critic John Pareles, of the New York Times. After participating of the project Global One in two songs, he is now working on his new album, to be released in October 2008.
