Paula Lobos
In the midst of a jaded musical landscape where great lyrics and outstanding musicality have, for the most part, gone amiss, Paula Lobos emerges. She was born in Montevideo, Uruguay and moved to Sweden alongside her family at the age of three.
Her passion for music developed early on but it wasn’t until she discovered Whitney Houston on a road trip with her father that her life was transformed—“I was so impressed! Wow, I couldn’t believe you could sing like that! That’s how I wanted to sing.”
And so, Paula’s love for soul, R&B, and pop was born. She was blessed with a melodic voice; a perfect blend of tradition and modernism that defines her musical being. She became involved in a gospel choir and it turned out to be another changing point for her, “Singing gospel was a very good way for me to develop and find my own style as a singer, it provided an incredible foundation”. After studying at several music schools in Stockholm, Paula decided to take matters into her own hand and in the fall of 2002 she founded Ladybug Records and released through it in May 2003 her debut album “Aura” to large critical acclaim. The first single “Fuss & Fight” and the second one “Your Life” became hits throughout Sweden garnering tremendous support on Swedish national radio and on music channels ZTV and MTV.
Still, after earning such success with English music, Paula felt she needed to delve into her musical core and herself culturally. Under that premise, “Una Vida Más” was born. Her first full-length album in her native tongue Spanish. In keeping with the truthfulness that characterizes her, the album is a combination of the sounds of R&B and Pop she has always loved. It contains 10 songs written by her and a club remix of the song “Aww Aww” featuring Lowcura. The first single off the album “Luz en Mi Camino”, which features rapper Martin Bentancourt, is a celebration of love and a tribute to that special someone everyone has who helps them get through the tough times.
“Una Vida Más” marks the first time Paula Lobos’ music is heard in the United States and assessing by the quality of the sound and the geniality of Paula herself, it won’t be the last.
