Since leaving Japan to pursue her own artist career in the U.S., Mayumi Kaneyuki has established herself as a successful singer in both her new home and the Japanese music scene.

Originally from Yokohama, Japan, Mayumi grew up in a traditional family and got in touch with music and art early on.

Originally from Yokohama, Japan, Mayumi grew up in a traditional family and got in touch with music and art early on. After studying classical piano, voice and acting, Mayumi soon set out to work on her own goals as a singer and performer. Her first U.S. release was her self-titled debut album which combines afro-latin music with Mayumi's silky singing style.

The album went on to become a hit in the latin music market and was noted for its original compositions and new take on latin music. Mayumi soon became a favorite in the latin music scene for her unusual approach to an exotic musical style.

Despite her exposure to modern western music, Mayumi did not forget about her Japanese roots and decided to learn more about traditional Japanese art and music.

Mayumi immersed herself in the old and often misunderstood art of geisha, Japanese dance and singing styles. Fascinated by Japanese music such as Enka and Kaykoku, she decided to record an album that combines both the old and the new.

This eventually led to the formation of the duo Make. The album 'Make Over' mixes old Japanese and Chinese songs with elements of jazz, world music, bossa nova and was released on the Japanese Major Label 'Up-front'. Mayumi also has been active as an actress in major motion pictures and independent movies and has become a steady performer in the Los Angeles music scene.
